Photo of the Day Saturday 9th February 2013 – Not the Quality Spa Resort Hotel, Norefjell
Thought for the day..” Never test the depth of the water with both feet”
“Some days you are the dog, and some days you are the tree”
“Experience is something that you do not get until after you need it”.
Did you know that the record speed attained on a cycle on a flat, paved road was 133 km/h by Sam Whittingham in 2009? That was unpaced (ie no vehicle in front to shield the wind off the cyclist), but the motor-paced records are quite something……Fred Rompelberg from Maastrict, Netherlands achieved 268 km/h at the Bonneville Salt Flats in the USA, cycling behind a dragster. And Marcus Stockl has reached a speed of 210 km/h downhill on snow in 2007.
And the record for the distance cycled in 24 hours is also impressive. Greg Kolodziejzyk set the land distance record at 1041 km in Eureka, California in 2006. Pete Penseyres has cycled across the USA, a distance of 3107 miles or about 5000km in 8 days, 9 hours and 47 minutes.
