Dealing with morons

Thought for the day….” Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something”.

I love technology.  I really do.  I was keen to install the new mCash mobile phone app so that I could pay electronically using my mobile phone.   mCash is offered by a Norwegian bank, Sparebank1 so you would think that they would be ok with technology.  Wrong.   I ran into a problem from the start….despite having Sweden listed on the menus of the app, it would not send sms to a Swedish mobile number.    So of course I contacted the mCash helpline but they are claiming that they cannot send messages (sms) to a Swedish phone.   Despite asking them many times, they have been unable (or unwilling) to say why they cannot send a sms.  What is even more surprising is that the same morons who set the mCash system up actually put Sweden as an option on the menus.    And when you contact these people, who work in i.t (information technology) then you are left wondering how these morons actually got the job.   So the people working in I.T are unable to explain or fix the simple challenge.   I can send a sms to anywhere in the world, but the morons at mCash are either unwilling or incapable of doing this.  And they are employed to work in I.T.

And why does any app like this demand access to ALL my contacts on my phone, and why does a payment app demand control over things like the flashlight on my phone?   Very interesting to see the sort of permissions that apps like these demand.   Needless to say, the app has been uninstalled.   But I wonder how the morons at mCash keep their job.  And how did they get their jobs in the first place?

Buying decisions….to buy or not to buy, that is the question

Thought for the day…”A goal without a plan is just a wish”

“Success with a negative attitude is called Luck.  Success with a positive attitude is called Achievement”.

To buy, or not to buy.   That is the question.   Having recently upgraded the camera to the newer Fuji X-T10 (great camera, and highly recommended), the finger is now poised over the ‘BUY’ button.  This time it is the new Fuji XF 100-400mm lens.   All the reviews have been great, and the people that have posted their comments praise the lens, so it is undoubtedly a wonderful lens.   I gave the lens a try in the camera shop, and it felt very good, and the extra zoom would be very welcome BUT here is the problem….the lens costs about 3 times as much as the camera did, and with the teleconverter, will cost around 2000 euros.    So the finger is hesitating on the ‘BUY’ button.    Quality always costs more, and the Fuji products are great, but the thought of almost 2000 euros on a lens is difficult to accept.  To buy, or not to buy, that is the question…..

A couple of photos from the north of Norway, taken with the standard 18-55mm Fuji lens on the X-T10.  The first photo is from the small town of Vardo, at the top of Norway.

Buyer Beware – caught out again !

Thought for the day…” If we open a quarrel between past and present, we shall find that we have lost the future”  (Winston Churchill).

”  Laughter is timeless, imagination has no age, and dreams are forever”  (Walt Disney)

We all make mistakes, that is only human.  But what is wrong, and perhaps even criminal, is when companies make mistakes then are unwilling to put them right.    The latest example is by a Swedish based company called Cyberphoto, who trade online around Scandinavia.   Having ordered a new camera from them, I was told that it was on its way to me.  First mistake, as it was not.    So Cyberphoto had raised my expectations that I would soon receive my shiny new camera, but it was not to be.    When it did finally arrive, I saw that Cyberphoto had charged my card twice for the purchase.   I returned the camera due to the poor lens quality (Sony A6000, but the Sony 55-210mm kit lens was just too low a quality for the camera) but I am still waiting on Cyberphoto to refund my money.    It would not be so bad if Cyberphoto replied to emails promptly, but that seems to be too much for them.    So, at the moment, they have both my money and the camera.    And they seem to have gone very quiet too.

Making a mistake is not the problem, we all do that.  But what is wrong is when a company fails to put things right promptly.    Do Cyberphoto think that I would ever order from them again??    Indeed, unless they refund all my money very quickly then they are going to find a court summons landing on their doorstep.    Having been to court before (only as a plaintiff I must add) then I am not afraid to do it again, but it is a sad state of affairs when you have to do this.    But the way that this company is behaving, then it deserves to end up in court.  And they may well do.  Let the buyer beware.  And in this case, let Cyberphoto beware, because this particular consumer many just bite back, and bite back hard.
