Dealing with morons

Thought for the day….” Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something”.

I love technology.  I really do.  I was keen to install the new mCash mobile phone app so that I could pay electronically using my mobile phone.   mCash is offered by a Norwegian bank, Sparebank1 so you would think that they would be ok with technology.  Wrong.   I ran into a problem from the start….despite having Sweden listed on the menus of the app, it would not send sms to a Swedish mobile number.    So of course I contacted the mCash helpline but they are claiming that they cannot send messages (sms) to a Swedish phone.   Despite asking them many times, they have been unable (or unwilling) to say why they cannot send a sms.  What is even more surprising is that the same morons who set the mCash system up actually put Sweden as an option on the menus.    And when you contact these people, who work in i.t (information technology) then you are left wondering how these morons actually got the job.   So the people working in I.T are unable to explain or fix the simple challenge.   I can send a sms to anywhere in the world, but the morons at mCash are either unwilling or incapable of doing this.  And they are employed to work in I.T.

And why does any app like this demand access to ALL my contacts on my phone, and why does a payment app demand control over things like the flashlight on my phone?   Very interesting to see the sort of permissions that apps like these demand.   Needless to say, the app has been uninstalled.   But I wonder how the morons at mCash keep their job.  And how did they get their jobs in the first place?

Curious marketing, or is it crazy marketing???

Thought for the day…”Success is when preparation meets opportunity”

“When life changes to become harder, change yourself to be stronger”.

I have received an email from Lonely Planet advertising some new books.  I am wondering if I am missing something here.   One of the book titles is ‘The Best Things in Life Are Free”, but there is a ‘buy now’ button.   Now that does not seem right to me, but perhaps I am wrong…..

Almost as bad was the email sent to me by Amazon.  Having ordered some wine for a friend, the confirmation email from Amazon went on to suggest other items that I might be interested in purchasing.   On the list was….Andrex Toilet tissue!!   I cannot see that people ordering wine would be interested in ordering toilet tissue at the same time, but maybe I am wrong.    But who orders toilet paper online anyway???    Strange marketing.

Lovely sunrise at Floro, Norway on the 15th October for the photo today, captured with the Fuji X-T10 camera and standard 18-55mm lens.

Sunrise in New Zealand

Thought for the day……” You have succeeded in life when all you really want is only what you need”

“You never fail until you stop trying”

Three photos from the same spot showing the sunrise in Riverton, South Island of New Zealand. Riverton lies at 46 degrees south, and has a population of about 1431 people, although this has been decreasing and the number of empty houses increasing.   Originally a whaling town, it later changed to a logging town, helped by the arrival of the railway.   Surfers often visit the town due to the surfing at nearby Colac Bay.   Riverton is on almost the same latitude as Punta Arenas in Chile.   Just after taking the third photo, it was time to put the camera away and head back for the first coffee of the day, always the best one !

Breakfast morning sunrise – Pembroke New Zealand

Thought for the day…” We are going to have peace even if we have to fight for it”   (Dwight Eisenhower).

“Those who are easily shocked should be shocked more often    (Mae West).

Nice photo of the sunrise on 20th Februrary for today’s photo.  One of those occasions when it was so lucky to have the camera ready AND be in the right place at the right time.     I took a series of shots as the clouds and light changed, but the aim was to get the clouds to appear to come out of the electricity pylon and a frame around the best of the clouds.  See what you think.  As the light was changing so fast (and the clouds were also moving fast due to the strong winds aloft) then there was not time to set things up properly, but the results were fine.  Hopefully the time-lapse of the moving clouds will be equally dramatic.    So much fun with a camera !!!

Early one morning……71 degrees north

Thought for the day…” The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled.”

For some reason, I have few photos of sunrise.    Not that sunrise is the correct term, because the sun does not rise at all, just that the Earth is turning.   Those who are into sundials will know about the equation of time, and the effects of refraction on the actual time of  ‘sunrise’.   Today’s photo was taken on 29th September at 71 degrees north in North Norway, just ahead of a storm.  Suprisingly, about 30 minutes after the photo was taken, the scene had changed to wind and rain, but for a few minutes around ‘sunrise’ the colours and clouds were great.  As usual, the Fuji X-E1 was the camera.

Early one morning…..sunrise in Pembroke, New Zealand

Thought for the day…” Strong is what happens when you run out of weak”.

“If you want something that you never had, then you have to do something that you have never done”.

Currently in New Zealand waters, and at present in Auckland, is a 134m superyacht, ‘Serene’.    One of the world’s largest private yachts, owned by a Russian vodka company boss, the boat is said to have cost some USD 330 million.   Crewed by 52 staff, it boasts 7 decks, 2 helipads, an indoor salt water swimming pool, movie theatre, nightclub, climbing wall, gym, underwater viewing room, and several jacuzzis.   When the Russian owner is not using Serene, it is available for charter.  Not cheap though, as rumor has it that when Bill Gates rented it, the cost was some USD 5 million a week.    No doubt that the price includes a good selection of vodkas in the bars though.

Today’s photo is a lucky shot.   Suddenly one morning for about 5 minutes the clouds parted during the sunrise, and just for a very short time, I was able to get some great photos of a dramatic sunrise.    Another occasion when it was good to have the camera there and ready……..Lots of photos of sunSETS on the internet, but not so many of sunRISES.      Taken in Pembroke, New Zealand, with the Fuji X-E1 camera.
