Photo of the Day Tuesday 23 April – Not the Quality Spa Resort Hotel, Norefjell

Thought for the day….” Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else, you are the one that actually gets burnt”.

”  The only difference between a rut and a grave are the dimensions”.

The first photo is said to have been ‘the view from the window’ which was taken in 1826 by Joseph Niepce.  The exposure for this photo lasted 8 hours !!   Fox Talbot is credited with inventing the photographic negative in 1839.  The first colour photograph was taken in 1861 by James Maxwell.  The first digital camera came around 1973, and made a photo of 100 pixels X 100 pixels.  There are 12 Hassleblad cameras on the moon, they were left there in order that more lunar rock samples could be brought back to earth.

And another photo out of the archives…taken a time ago, but showing the old town in Funchal, Madeira.

Thought for the day…” A fool and his money are soon elected.”

The theme for the photo today is Speed & Power.    I like this photo because it is an action shot, and a shot that shows power, speed and determination.  The background is not perfect, but the photo does capture the moment so well.  It was taken on the island of Madeira, in the capital, Funchal.    An interesting fact about bicycles is that half of the parts are in the chain.  The fastest speed ever recorded on a bicycle was attained by American Olympic Cyclist and Ironman triathlon competitor John Howard, when he reached 152.2 mph or 245km/h  in 1985.  Before 1869, bicycle tyres were made of iron, although clearly the cyclist in this photo has got some good tyres !!

Happy not to be working at the Quality Spa Resort Hotel in Norefjell,

Thought for the day…”  If you can’t have the best of everything, Make the best of everything you have. ”

Off to the wonderful Portuguese island of Madeira for the photo today.   Out one Sunday morning in the capital, Funchal, and saw this cycle race.   This photo says power and determination and is a great action shot.  Taken from low down, it gives a good impression of the race.  About 110 000 people live in Funchal, whichis about 500km west of the African coast.   Great place for a holiday, due to the mild, year round climate.

Happy not to be working at the Quality Spa Resort in Norefjell.
