Photo of the Day Tuesday 11th June 2013 – Not the Quality Spa Resort Hotel, Norefjell.

Thought for the day..” I am the author of my life.  Unfortunately, I am writing in pen and I cannot erase my mistakes”.

” Do not regret growing older.  It is a privilege denied to many”.

Did you see the article in the news from NBC that Domino’s Pizzas are testing the use of drones to deliver pizzas.  Apparently, they are trialling a drone that has 8 propellors, called a Domicopter, that can carry 2 pizzas from shop to customer.   So far, Dominos have been impressed by the trials, and the speed at which the drones can deliver the pizzas.  How long will it be before robots are also delivering the mail?   Another story in the news that caught my eye was the story about HAI, or healthcare acquired infection.   Apparently, in the US, 1 in every 20 people admitted to a hospital will catch an infecton, or HAI.   Trials are now being carried out in the US of a special bracelet (called intelligentM ) which can monitor when/if healthcare staff wash their hands, and if they do it for long enough.   Using RFID, the bracelet can then record handwashing, and also upload information to let other staff monitor handwashing.   And according to the British newspaper Daily Mail, your computer keyboard is 5 times dirtier than your toilet seat.  This can lead to ‘qwerty tummy’.  A survey by ‘Which’ found that 1 in 10 of all people never clean their keyboards, which accounts for the millions of bacteria growing on them.  So keep the hand sanitizer ready !

New Zealand for the photo today and a photo from one of the few roads that goes through the Southern Alps.  Taken from the road between Makaroroa and Haast on a beautiful summers day.  In a few kilometres from where the photo was taken, the road will reach the highest point, 564m above sea level.    Haast Pass got its name from the 19th century explorer, Julius von Haast.
