Why do they do it?

Thought for the day…” Some days there will not be a song in hour heart.  Sing anyway”.

“Shoot for the moon.  Even if you miss then you will end up among the stars”.

I have no sympathy or patience for the increasing numbers of people who are walking along pavements with their head down, concentrating on a mobile telephone, and oblivious to the outside world.    Now I refuse to move out of their way.  TMCnet.com is reporting that a poll of British doctors has shown that 37% of UK smartphone users have stumbled in the last 2 years.  The study also reported that 40% of Greek smartphone users damaged their phones in stumbling accidents over the last 2 years.    And sites such as youtube have videos showing mobile phone users walking off piers in the sea or into canals or fountains whilst texting. So why do people do it??   What is so important that it needs a text to be sent whilst walking???  Moan for the day.

A sunny day in the Croatian city of Dubrovnik for the photo today and a shot of the Costa Victoria cruise ship.  The ship carries up to 1928 passengers and a crew of 766, whilst about 42 000 people live in the city of Dubrovnik.

Would you turn off your mobile phone for a discount ?

Thought for the day…” Just because nobody complains does not mean that all parachutes are perfect”  (Benny Hill).

Spotted an interesting story in the news about an Italian priest who had installed electronics in his church to jam the signals to mobile telephones.    Signs in the church asking people to switch off their telephones had not worked, so the priest took things a stage further and installed the jamming device.   Local shopkeepers have been complaining that the phone-jammer is so powerful that it is affecting electronics in their shops as well.   That story reminds me of the story about the Israeli restaurant owner near Jerusalem who offered diners a 50% discount off their bills if they would switch off their mobile phones during their meal.    His idea was to encourage people to be social with each other again, rather than being glued to the screens of their mobile telephones.   Other restaurants in the USA have followed the idea, some even offering discounts to diners who give up ALL electronics for the duration of their meal.

No signs of any mobile phones in today’s photo, which comes from southern Oman.  Both photos taken with the Panasonic camera.

Ice gazing in Iceland – Not the Quality Spa Resort Hotel, Norefjell

Thought for the day…” A smile is a curve that sets everything straight”.

Did you read that story on the net about the Israeli restaurant owner near Jerusalem who is offering a 50% discount on your bill if you turn off your mobile phone whilst eating?   Apparently the offer has been extremely popular, and I hope that it spreads to other places.  Not good to read that soon people will be allowed to use their mobile phones whilst onboard aircraft, so presumably future trips will be marred by people talking too loud and too long.    Why do so many people feel the need to constantly use a mobile phone?

Off to Iceland for the photo and a picture of the ice flows from a glacier.   As the day was overcast then the picture was changed into black & white.  The glacier is visible in the background, and the two people on the right give an idea of the scale.
