Another photo from the capital of Oman, Muscat, and part of the grounds of the Sultan’s Palace. Unfortunately, the palace is not open to the public, who would probably love the chance to escape the very hot summers that Muscat experiences. Temperatures in Oman can reach almost 50 degrees in summer. The sultan, Qaboos Bin Said is said to have wealth of over USD 700 million. Interestingly, in Oman, any citizen who has an appeal or request is allowed to appear before the Sultan, who regularly conducts tours around the country. The sultan is also the owner of 8 luxury yachts. Perhaps he would be interested in buying all 85 metres of the luxury superyacht ‘Cakewalk’, which owner Charles Gallagher of Denver is selling for a reported USD 159 million. 14 guests can travel for up to 5000 nautical miles whilst being looked after by the 24 crew onboard.
If that price is too high for you, then a toothbrush from the Apollo 13 mission may be more affordable. An auction house in Los Angeles recently sold an Oral B toothbrush used by command module pilot Jack Swigert for USD 11 794. That was the price for a used toothbrush. My toothbrush is for sale (used) if anybody is interested, and I will throw in a free tube of toothpaste too.
and one from the archives – a boy in Ethiopia

Here is a photo of some chairs. These are not something that you will see many of in Oslo Gardermoen airport. I had the misfortune (and misfortune is the word) to travel through Oslo (code OSL) airport recently. The managers there have seen fit to take away nearly all the chairs in the departure/check-in area. What are passengers supposed to do when they are waiting??? Emails to OSL managers got a reply that the airport does not have space. Very interesting that an airport that does not have space for chairs does have space to put in weird ‘sculptures’ including one that looks like a bent penis (check it out with an image search!!). So an international airport in the capital city of Norway does not apparently have space for chairs (although I would disagree with this, there is PLENTY of space), but does have space for stupid sculptures that just take up space and do nothing for the comfort of passengers. But do not worry. The managers of OSL airport said in their email reply that they will ‘review’ the situation in 2017 when the new terminal extension opens. You did read that correct, they will ‘review’ in 2017. Meanwhile, the stupid sculptures remain and passengers are forced to sit on the floor due to the lack of chairs. Not some 3rd world country, but Norway, Scandinavia. I guess that the managers of OSL airport will be using the First Class lounges, and will not be sitting on the floor like other passengers are doing. A crazy decision to remove chairs made by managers who are clearly out of touch with the needs of normal travelling passengers. I invite these very same managers to come and sit on the floor for 3 hours until the check-in opens.
