Lufthansa German Airlines group and Economy class travel

Thought for the day…”Success is getting what you want. Happiness is wanting what you get.”

“A certain amount of opposition is a great help to a man. Kites rise against, not with, the wind.”

Too many companies are using coronavirus as an excuse now.   Often it is being used to cover up their own failures but the excuse of coronavirus is being overused.   Joining the bandwagon of companies blaming (conveniently) coronavirus is the Lufthans group (LH) airlines.    Now this is why I am getting angry…..according to Lufthansa, they are no longer giving ECONOMY class passengers tea, coffee or food on flights of less than 150 minutes.  This is to protect “your health and the health of our employees”

https://www.lufthansa.com/ch/en/current-onboard-services#short-haul

BUT if you are travelling Business class then you will still get food and drink.   Now would the managers at Lufthansa like to tell me why Business class passengers are not seen as any risk whereas Economy class passengers are seen as a risk?   Or is the real reason that Lufthansa just wants to save money and is conveniently using coronavirus as an excuse to make further cuts to Economy class services?   I know which answer my money is on.   And also why do Lufthansa no longer service food when other airlines ARE still serving food to economy class passengers?

Companies should stop trying to blame coronavirus for everything.  Be honest with customers, and if you are going to cut out meals and drinks for Economy class passenger then BE HONEST and tell us the real reason….to save money.   Do not try and blame it on coronavirus.  We are not stupid.

New Zealand Sea lions – the Fuji XF 100-400mm lens again

Thought for the day….” Do not watch the clock, do what it does, keep going”

” Success is when preparation meets opportunity”.

The Fuji XF 100-400mm lens.    Interesting how things have reversed.   Initially I returned the lens after one day, having decided that it was far too heavy (almost 1.4kg) and too big to carry around.    But after seeing so many brilliant pictures on the internet, and also needing a longer zoom, I purchased it again.    Once you have adjusted to the size of it (it is big !!) and have adapted your way of carrying it, then it starts to get better.    Initially I thought that I would only use it occasionally, but as it is such a great lens then I am finding that I use it much more often.   FAST at focusing and also fast at taking photos, but it is the photo quality which is outstanding.    I used to think that the Fuji 18-55mm  kit lens was fantastic, but now the XF 100-400mm lens has taken top place.   Not a cheap lens to buy but quality costs, and this lens certainly IS quality.   The 3 photos below of sea lions in New Zealand will show what this lens can do, although the images here are only low resolution copies for the internet.   The photos below were taken with the Fuji X-T20 and the XF 100-400mm lens, all taken as jpegs.

Dealing with morons

I love technology.  I really do.  I was keen to install the new mCash mobile phone app so that I could pay electronically using my mobile phone.   mCash is offered by a Norwegian bank, Sparebank1 so you would think that they would be ok with technology.  Wrong.   I ran into a problem from the start….despite having Sweden listed on the menus of the app, it would not send sms to a Swedish mobile number.    So of course I contacted the mCash helpline but they are claiming that they cannot send messages (sms) to a Swedish phone.   Despite asking them many times, they have been unable (or unwilling) to say why they cannot send a sms.  What is even more surprising is that the same morons who set the mCash system up actually put Sweden as an option on the menus.    And when you contact these people, who work in i.t (information technology) then you are left wondering how these morons actually got the job.   So the people working in I.T are unable to explain or fix the simple challenge.   I can send a sms to anywhere in the world, but the morons at mCash are either unwilling or incapable of doing this.  And they are employed to work in I.T.

And why does any app like this demand access to ALL my contacts on my phone, and why does a payment app demand control over things like the flashlight on my phone?   Very interesting to see the sort of permissions that apps like these demand.   Needless to say, the app has been uninstalled.   But I wonder how the morons at mCash keep their job.  And how did they get their jobs in the first place?

End of the day…..sunset time

Thought for the day….” Some days you just have to create your own sunshine”.

“If opportunity does not knock then build a door”.

Is it my imagination or are the shops even more crazy this year than in previous years?  Just had ‘Black Friday’ and ‘Blue Monday’ and now the shops seem to be in overdrive for Christmas.    And yet it seems that each year that there is less actual Christmas spirit and just more and more Christmas panic.      Hard to concentrate on Christmas when the shops are starting it earlier and earlier each year.     As usual, it will be madness in the shops in the last couple of weeks.    Happy to see it over !!

Couple of photos to show just how good the Fuji jpegs are.     Slowly going through the masses of photos and I am trying to delete lots, but it is fun to see some of the better photos.     With the great colours from the standard Fuji jpegs, then I can save a lot of time in not editing RAW files.     Much easier to get a good jpeg that is just as I want it, instead of hours of editing RAW files.      Purists will argue that there is more detail in the RAW files, and that you can adjust them more, but for me, the Fuji jpegs are just right.    Have a look at two photos below and see what you think of the colours…….

The megapixel race

Thought for the day…” Remember- you are unique.  Just like everyone else”.

“Laughter is a tranquilizer with no side effects, so keep taking it regularly”.

Just been reading the latest issue of Amateur Photographer magazine, and learning about the latest and greatest cameras that are being released, some of which now come with over 40 megapixels of resolution.    I read a very interesting letter on the dpreview.com forum (dpreview.com   is an excellent website for anyone interested in photography) from a man who was selling his Fuji camera.  He was very happy with the excellent quality photos that it produced and the very high resolution BUT he went on to say that all he ever did was to look at his pictures on the computer screen, so having so many pixels was wasted.   The camera produced fantastic quality pictures, but for HIS needs, it was too much.   I am sure that many people will sympathize with his views…do we really need upwards of 40mp resolution?   How many photos are we actually going to print or enlarge to a huge size?   And if we are just going to look at them on a computer screen then those extra pixels may indeed be wasted.    I will stick with my 16mp Fuji camera for now…the results are totally ok for my needs.   No need to upgrade to a 40mp camera…..I just do not need the extra pixels.    Sorry Canon, sorry Sony, I am just not interested !!

Today’s photo is reduced in quality for the internet…..but shows Furusund in the Swedish archipeligo at sunset..

Wood carver in Espirito Santo – Not the Quality Spa Resort Hotel, Norefjell.

Thought for the day…” Do stairs go up or down?”      “If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?”

“If ignorance is bliss, then why aren’t more people happy?”.

Another curious story in the news this time from Venezuela.  Not toilet paper shortages this time making the news in Venezuela, but HAIR THIEVES.   The Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro has now promised to take action against the gangs who are stealing hair, sometimes at gunpoint, to sell to hair salons.    Venezuela has one of the worl’ds highest murder rates, although official figures are not published, as well as frequent carjackings, armed robberies and kidnapping.

And in Saudi Arabia, a man weighing around 610kg has been airlifted to hospital for treatment.   Apparently, the man was so big that part of the apartment had to be demolished so that a fork lift truck could carry him to a military aircraft.  He was flown to a hospital for treatment.

Another photo from the archives, and again from the island of Espirito Santo in the Pacific Ocean.   Lucky to capture a photo of this woodcarver in the forest, and lucky that the light was ok for the photo too.   I wonder how much things have changed since I was last there.     As usual, I wish that I had taken a lot more photos!!

Tranquility – Not the Quality Spa Resort Hotel, Norefjell.

Thought for the day….” Success is not measured by money, awards or medals.  It is measured by the difference between what you CAN achieve and what you actually achieve”.

“You only live once, so do not hesitate. you will miss your chance”.

Amusing story in the news at the moment about the Indian army, who thought that they had been subject to 329 spy missions by Chinese drones.   It was found that the sightings were not actually Chinese drones on spy missions, but were in fact the planets Jupiter and Venus.   Whilst I would like to visit India, the crazy procedure for obtaining a TOURIST visa has put me off, along with the time and cost to obtain it.  The Indian government should realize that tourists bring money and foreign exchange to the country, so they should make it EASY for tourists to travel there, not make it an expensive hassle.   Easy decision for me though, until it is quick and easy to get a visa then I will not go there.

An early morning photo of the hills of Norway for the photo today, and a peaceful scene.   Norway has 3 languages, Bokmal Norwegian (the main language), Nynorsk (mainly in the west parts of Norway) and Sami (mainly in the far north of Norway).  There are more Norwegian descendants living in the USA than people living in Norway (6 million descendants in the USA and around 5 million people in Norway).  As in Sweden and Finland, you can only buy alcohol (above 3.5%) in the government operated shops, called Vinmonopolet in Norway.    That said, when you see the prices for alcohol in Norway, then you may well decide not to buy.  Norway is also home to the largest glacier in Europe (Josteldalsbreen)
